Neponset River Trail: The Bids Are In!

May 7, 2001

Through the winter, delay followed delay as the construction designs were ready and actual construction was ready to go out to bid. Finally in April bids were solicited, with a May 2 deadline. The low bid came from the same company which built the Upper Charles Reservation Trail, a great riverside bicycle and pedestrian path. Construction should start in June, and the trail should be completely paved and signed from Central Ave. in Milton to Tennean Beach (and beyond) in Dorchester.

On May 1, Phase I of Pope John Paul II Park, on the site of the old Neponset Drive-In, opened to the public. It contains 0.25-mile of the Neponset Trail, as well as soccer fields and paved paths down to the estuary shoreline.
