This expected blizzard, with high winds and snow turning to rain turning to ice,
fell on us all day Tuesday. Having had minor surgery on Monday, I stayed inside
the extra day to recover and didn't shovel my 200 feet of sidewalk until Wednesday
morning, by which time it had frozen pretty hard on top. It took me two hours,
with a hot cocoa break in the middle, to get at least a shovel-wide path clear to
bare pavement. I was pretty wary about paths when I set out because of the ice on
top, but they proved to be better than I expected. Since the temperature stayed low
until Friday night, I kept checking facilities as I biked all over the city.

unsalted areas. A bit of show and ice around intersections.

Dave Adams reports on Friday:
The Mystic path between I93 and the river (south to the Blessing of the Bay boathouse)
was _not_ cleared this morning. They usually plow it, but it looked completely unnavigable
this morning at the Route 16 north end.
The sidewalk / path along the Mystic River Reservation was plowed, but had some icy spots.
I opted to ride on route 16E to Wellington Circle, right onto Rt 28S, then into the left
lane to take the left into Assembly.

These paths aren't plowed because they get relatively little transportation
use and because they are used by cross-country skiers like me. There
are marked narrow bike lanes on Enneking Parkway through the
reservation which are probably clear. After this snowfall, the paths
should be pretty bikable, though there will be ice.
