MassPaths Bikepath Snow Plowing Report
Thursday, February 16, 2017

Bike paths and lanes are integral parts of the bicycle transportation network, and these reports are provided to encourage their use by bicyclists who might otherwise not venture out in the snow, and to encourage their proper maintenance (which includes snow plowing) by the responsible agencies given in bold type below. If they are not plowed while the snow is still soft, paths with significant foot traffic become unskiable within a day, and remain a mess for everyone until the ice melts.

I didn't expect to wake to another couple of inches of snow this morning, and my back yard was so beautiful that it was hard to leave, but I had a 9am appointment and had to shovel the walks on my way out, so I rode across the city on some snowy paths and lots of streets.

Please send updates and reports on the conditions of other paths in Massachusetts to Jessica Mink.

Arnold Arboretum
1.5 miles of park roads which are mostly closed to automobile traffic with no intersections
Boston Parks and Harvard University
I was in a hurry and stayed on the Arborway sidewalk instead of the road from the Forest Hills gate to the main gate, but probably continued to be packed powder with occasional ice underneath, so watch out. The rest of the Arboretum is probably the same.

Partly clear with snow on the curb edge.
Arborway sidewalks
1 mile of wide paved shoulder which is unmarked but usually clear of parked cars during rush hour

Pretty clear northbound, narrowed eastbound.

The boardwalk under the bridge is clear, and so is the path next to 93N, until you hit Rte. 16 near Meadow Glen Mall. That portion is yucky and icy.
Starting back at Assembly Row, then:
The sidewalk on the east side of the Fellsway Bridge is cleared, and you can access the Wellington Greenway path, which is cleared up until Wellington Station. The Malden River path is cleared after the Citizens Bank HQ (take Cabot Rd. to the river bank). The Rivers Edge Apartments path is nice and clear, passing the boathouse. That's as far as I got before turning back.
