It snowed about two inches Saturday night in Boston, and this is the first time this year when the snow has stuck for more than 24 hours. I was out only briefly on Sunday, but checked out a number of paths on my way to work this morning, and they were all plowed. I still haven't put by studded tires on my bike, but if this snow doesn't melt off the paths today, there will be ice tonight.
Please send updates and reports on the conditions of other paths in Massachusetts to Jessica Mink.

Minuteman "Commuter Bikeway" Towns of Cambridge, Arlington, Lexington, and Bedford |
Rod Holland reports on Sunday night:
Rode the Minuteman Trail from Arlington Center to Lexington Center
today, in the early afternoon. At that point, both the Arlington and
Lexington stretches had been plowed, but with different results. The
Arlington section was more or less uniformly covered by a thin,
compacted snow layer, with a high coefficient of rolling friction. The
Lexington section had more patches of bare pavement, but also more icy
bits. Conditions varied somewhat by lane, with traffic funneling into
the lane with the better surface, at times. Passable, with a little
caution, and kinder to some kinds of tires than others; I was running
26" Nokian W240's, kind of an outlier case, but saw other bikes and
tracks of various widths in the snow. Conditions will, of course,
change continuously as the temperature yo-yos over the coming hours and
days. Details are usually posted at http://www.clearthetrail.org |
