A few hundred kids and parents brought carved pumpkins to Davenport Creek in Pope John Paul II Park
in Dorchester, where staff from the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation
and members of the Neponset River Greenway Council put them on floats, added lights, and sent them
downstream. There was candy from state senator Nick Collins and hot cocoa from the DCR, too.
The pumpkins were trapped by a boom across the creek, taken out of the water by canoe, and composted.
