Join us for our monthly meeting as we discuss progress of construction of the Neponset Trail and other issues along the Neponset River Greenway with staff from the Mass. Department of Conservation and Recreation, which manages it, the State Police who patrol it, and concerned citizens. T cites progress on structural deficit
Officials suggest replacing all 220 Green Line cars

Jeffrey Gonneville, the T’s chief operating officer, said the T’s subway, light rail, and bus fleet requires $3.7 billion in capital investment over the next 10 years, of which $1.6 billion has been budgeted.
The T has already purchased new Red Line and s that are scheduled for delivery in 2019 and beyond. Gonneville also urged the Fiscal Management and Control Board to consider replacing all 220 Green Line cars, overhaul or replace another 86 Red Line cars, and replace in some fashion the 10 ancient trolley cars used on the Ashmont-Mattapan line.
Gonneville said the Ashmont-Mattapan cars are all about 70 years old, so out of date that any replacement parts have to be manufactured internally by the T or obtained from museums. He recommended ditching the existing cars and either replacing them with a refashioned Green Line train or electric buses.
Neponset Estuary Cleanup
The Neponset River Watershed Association (NepRWA) is planning a River Cleanup along the Quincy Riverwalk in conjunction with DCR Park Serve Day on Saturday, April 30 and hopes folks will both plan to attend and spread the word.
They have aspired to be able to expand this cleanup geographically (and the fall one too) but did not get grant funding fora staff member to help with this and other tasks.
If there was a volunteer who wanted to be a site captain for an additional cleanup location on April 30, perhaps on the Dorchester side of the river, NepRWA could potentially try to funnel some volunteers in that direction as well. If anyone is interested please let NepRWA know.
