Come learn about plans to reconnect three of Boston's most important greenways: the Emerald Necklace, the Charles River Basin, and the Southwest Corridor and, in the process, reclaim a lost park overlooking the Charles River.
Peter is on the Brookline Bicycle Committee and is an ardent bicycle commuter who has been assigning his civil engineering students projects to improve bicycling in Boston. I've been involved for three years, as a client for the first two, and have been very impressed by the quality and thoroughness of the students' designs. Not only is Peter thinking about the future of bicycling in Boston, he is teaching the people who will make it come true! And in at least one case, the students' work has influenced a current project.
This event is sponsored by LivableStreets Alliance and is free and open to the public. A donation is suggested. Beer and sodas will be provided compliments of Harpoon Brewery!
A 10 mile family ride will reach Vitale Park in Saugus and an 18 mile adult ride will reach Nahant Beach before returning to Malden. Children must be 8 or over, under 16 accompanied by an adult. Helmets must be worn by all. The $25 family of four fee and the $15 individual rider fee also covers T-shirts, pizza and door prizes after the ride back at the Dockside.
You may
pre-register at Active.com or register outside the Dockside on the day of
the ride from 8 until 8:45 am.
Bike to the Sea, Inc. is a Malden-based, non-profit organization that
works for bicycle safety and safe places to ride. Bike to the Sea's
main focus has been the development of the Northern Strand Community
Trail, a multi-use trail that will extend from Everett through Malden,
Saugus, Revere to the Lynn waterfront.
In addition to the meeting, there will be a walking tour from the
Library to the MCRT, then along the MCRT to the intersection of the
BFRT and then back to the Library. This will be under 1 mile. We plan
to end our day's events with a walk/tour of the intersection of these two
trails.
